Yes, but only on Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. Apple introduced Readiness, a 0–10 daily score, in September 2026. It is built from recent activity, training load, overnight vitals and sleep, and shows a category such as Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It. Every earlier Apple Watch has no built-in recovery score — if you own one, a third-party app that reads Apple Health is the only way to get this readout.
Which Apple Watch models have a recovery score?
| Model | Built-in recovery score | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch Ultra 4 | Yes — Readiness (0–10) | Nothing extra |
| Apple Watch Series 12 | Yes — Readiness (0–10) | Nothing extra |
| Series 11 and earlier, Ultra 3 and earlier, all SE models | No | A third-party recovery app |
If your watch is older than a Series 12 or Ultra 4 and you were told it “has readiness now”, that is a third-party app's score showing in a widget or complication — not a system feature.
What Readiness actually uses
Apple builds Readiness from four inputs: recent activity, training load, overnight vitals and sleep. It is deliberately narrow — a daily judgement, not a training platform. That is why it pairs well with a third-party app rather than replacing it.
- It is free and instant. No subscription, no account, no setup.
- History is limited. If you want to look back months, or read weekly and monthly trends, you need something else.
- It can disagree with apps, and that is normal. Different baselines and weightings; the same morning can read “Ready” on the watch and middling in an app.
If your watch does not have it
Install a third-party recovery app. These read the sleep, HRV and resting heart rate your watch already records into Apple Health, build a personal baseline over roughly two to four weeks, and produce a daily score. On older hardware this is the only route to a readiness number — and because the underlying sensors are the same, the signal quality is comparable.
Healia is one option: it computes the score on your iPhone rather than in a cloud, needs no account, and works on any Apple Watch paired with iOS 17 or later.
